All shared, semi-dedicated, and reseller web hosting plans allow customers to host an unlimited number of domains and subdomains. Domains can be added as addon domains, aliases (parked domains), or subdomains. Each individual addon domain hosted under your account can have its own settings, software, and email accounts. Please note that adding a domain through cPanel does not automatically register your domain. If you wish to use a domain as an addon domain it must first be a registered domain name.
Creating addon domains through cPanel
An addon domain is an additional domain that the system stores as a subdomain of your main site. Use addon domains to host additional domains on your account. Each addon domain can have its own software, emails, settings, etc.:
- Login to cPanel for your hosting account and use the search bar to access the "Domains" interface:
- From the cPanel Domains interface click the "Create A New Domain" button on the right side:
- From the Create A New Domain interface enter your domain in the "Domain" field. Unless you want your new domain to share the same content as your primary domain you should uncheck the button next to "Share document root" so you can setup your new domain as its own domain. cPanel requires a subdomain be created when you create an addon domain and you are safe to leave the default value unless you choose to modify the subdomain.
- Once you have filled out all the fields click "Submit" to create your new domain:
- It can take up to 5 minutes to complete the process of adding your new domain. Once completed your new domain will be listed in your "Domains" interface under your primary domain and other domains you've added previously:
Creating aliases (parked domains) through cPanel
Domain aliases (parked domains) make your website available from another domain name. For example, you can make www.example.net and www.example.org show content from www.example.com.
- Login to cPanel for your hosting account and use the search bar to access the "Domains" interface:
- From the cPanel Domains interface click the "Create A New Domain" button on the right side:
- From the Create a New Domain interface enter your new alias domain in the Domain field. Make sure you leave the "Share document root (/home/username/public_html) with primarydomain.com" checkbox enabled to alias your new domain to the primary domain and its existing content:
Creating subdomains through cPanel
A subdomain is a subsection of your website that can exist as a new website without a new domain name. Use subdomains to create memorable URLs for different content areas of your site. For example, you can create a subdomain for your blog that is accessible through blog.example.com and www.example.com/blog
- Login to cPanel for your hosting account and use the search bar to access the "Domains" interface:
- From the cPanel Domains interface click the "Create A New Domain" button on the right side:
- From the Create a New Domain interface enter your new subdomain in the Domain field. If you wish for this subdomain to be pointed to your primary domain and its main content, leave the "Share document root" checkbox enabled. If you wish to point the subdomain to its own directory to install / upload its own unique content, uncheck the box and enter the directory you wish to use for the new subdomain:
